Exciting Start for 2024 SJHL Draft
The 2024 SJHL Draft is set to kick off at 3 p.m. with an exciting lineup of teams ready to make their picks. Without any trades, the draft order for each round will be as follows:
• Notre Dame Hounds
• La Ronge Ice Wolves
• Yorkton Terriers
• Nipawin Hawks
• Kindersley Klippers
• Estevan Bruins
• Weyburn Red Wings
• Melville Millionaires
• Battlefords North Stars
• Humboldt Broncos
• Melfort Mustangs
• Flin Flon Bombers
Although the Notre Dame Hounds have traded away both of their first-round picks this year, the La Ronge Ice Wolves will have the first overall pick after acquiring it late last week. The Battlefords North Stars, on the other hand, will have the number-one overall selection in the 2008 portion of the draft.
Various trades have taken place leading up to the draft, including the Melfort Mustangs acquiring the Weyburn Red Wings’ second-round pick in the 2008-born draft. The Humboldt Broncos also secured an additional pick by getting a second-round selection in the 2009-born draft from the Notre Dame Hounds.
Drafted players are expected to come from leagues such as the Saskatchewan Under-18 ‘AAA’, ‘AA’, and Under-15 ‘AA’ leagues, as well as the Canadian Secondary School Hockey League (CSSHL).
Commissioner Kyle McIntyre expressed his excitement for the upcoming draft, stating that it is a thrilling time for the players, their families, and the SJHL teams. The draft will be broadcast live on the league’s social media platforms, with updates on picks and local selections available on Pattison Media portals.
