One person died after the explosion in Solingen. Wuppertal police announced this in a statement on Tuesday evening.

According to initial investigations, the deceased man dropped a bottle containing a substance that cannot yet be identified on the sidewalk. When the bottle broke, an explosion occurred. The man, whose identity has not yet been established, suffered serious injuries. He was taken by rescue helicopter to a specialist clinic, where he died a few hours later.

A seven-year-old girl, two women aged 35 and 45, and a 38-year-old man were injured by shrapnel and acoustic trauma in the explosion. The criminal police have begun investigations.

The “Rheinische Post” had previously reported that an unknown person had thrown “a bomb-like object” into the building. The target was apparently an arcade located in the building. The police did not confirm this in their statement.

Witnesses reported a loud bang on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße in Solingen at around 2:20 p.m. The authorities sounded the alarm. A so-called special construction organization, which is set up for major incidents, was set up. The four-lane residential and commercial street in Solingen’s city center, where the crime scene is located, was cordoned off over a wide area. A police helicopter circled the area in the afternoon and took aerial photographs. An emergency call was received at around 2:18 p.m. The “Solinger Tageblatt” and “Rheinische Post” had previously reported a loud bang and smoke development.
