Israeli forces recently uncovered documents in the Gaza Strip that shed light on Hamas’ elaborate plans for attacking Israel. According to the Washington Post, these documents revealed a variety of schemes, including a plan to blow up a skyscraper in Tel Aviv and efforts to enlist Iran’s support in their battle against Israel.
The seized documents, totaling 59 pages, detailed plans for attacks using trains, boats, and even horse-drawn chariots. Additionally, letters from Hamas to Iran’s top leaders in 2021 requested substantial funding and training for thousands of additional Hamas fighters. An Israeli security official, who reviewed the documents, noted that Hamas’s determination to eliminate Israel led them to involve Iran in direct conflict unexpectedly.
The release of these documents has raised concerns about potential retaliation from Israel against Iran, particularly after Iran launched nearly 200 missiles in response to the killing of a Hezbollah leader. In letters from 2021, Hamas’s Gaza leader appealed to Iranian officials for financial and military support, expressing confidence that with Iran’s backing, they could destroy Israel within two years.
While Iran initially refrained from direct involvement in the conflict following Hamas’ attack on Israel, the situation has escalated as proxies continue to target Israel. There were also plans to destroy prominent structures in Tel Aviv, such as the Moshe Aviv Tower and the Azrieli Center complex. Additionally, plans involved attacking Israel’s rail system and even using horse-drawn carriages as unconventional means of transportation for fighters and weapons.
