Election Day has come and gone, but the results are still pending in Arizona, with over 500,000 ballots yet to be counted. The state’s closely watched U.S. Senate race between Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego and Trump-backed Republican Kari Lake hangs in the balance.”Elections do not end on Election Day. It takes time to ensure all eligible votes are counted,” the state’s ballot progress page explains. Currently, there are an estimated 588,223 uncounted ballots in Arizona, causing the delay in final results. Despite Election Day being on Tuesday, the outcomes of the Senate and presidential races in Arizona remain up in the air as of Saturday.Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes clarified that historically, it takes 10-13 days to count the results in the state. Fontes emphasized the importance of accurate election results and the process of signature verification to maintain voter secrecy and ensure every vote is counted. Kari Lake has been actively encouraging volunteers to help with “curing” ballots, which involves resolving issues with signatures on early voting envelopes.Maricopa County Elections further explained that curing signature issues is crucial for ballot tabulation and there is a limited time window to address these problems. The winner of the U.S. Senate race will replace Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who decided not to run for re-election in 2024. While the Arizona results may still be pending, it is evident that President-elect Trump has secured a significant Electoral College victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 White House race.
