The Buffalo Sabres have been playing exceptionally well in the NHL lately, with a record of 7-3 in their last 10 games. This has put them in contention in the Atlantic Division and has given fans hope that their 13-year playoff drought may come to an end. What’s even more impressive is that the team has managed to win four of their last five games without their star player, Tage Thompson, in the lineup due to a lower-body injury.
Thompson, who is considered one of the best scorers in the NHL, has been sidelined for the past five games. However, after almost two weeks of recovery, he is now ready to make his comeback. In a recent statement to the Buffalo media, Thompson expressed his readiness to return to the ice for the Sabres’ upcoming game against the Montreal Canadiens. He stated, “I feel good. I had a good day today and I’m ready to go tomorrow.”
Thompson’s return has been highly anticipated, with speculation building up over the past few days. As a player who has scored 11 goals in his first 16 games of the season, leading the team in goals, his presence will be crucial for the Sabres. Despite his injury, Thompson has had an impressive career, scoring a total of 143 goals, 128 assists, and 271 points in 388 NHL games. His breakout season in 2021-2022 saw him score 30 goals, marking the beginning of three consecutive seasons with at least 29 goals.
Taking the necessary time to recover and ensure that he is fully fit before returning to the ice was important for Thompson. He emphasized the importance of not rushing back too soon and risking re-injury. The Sabres will undoubtedly benefit from having their top goal scorer back in the lineup, especially as they continue to push for a playoff spot.
