Dilaver Berk, a 25-year-old Lyft driver, was the victim of a horrific attack while on duty in Texas. The perpetrator, 19-year-old Antwain Williams, not only stole Berk’s car but also slashed his throat and attempted to choke him. The incident took place in Frisco, Texas, leaving Berk with deep gashes on his hands and stitches across his neck.

Brutal Attack Unfolds

Berk shared with authorities that he had picked up Williams as a passenger on Monday evening and was driving him to his destination at the Legends at Legacy Apartments on 3700 Legacy Drive. Upon arrival, Williams launched a sudden and violent attack on Berk from behind, first using a knife to slash his throat and then proceeding to choke him with a cable or wire. Despite sustaining multiple injuries, Berk managed to plead with the assailant for mercy, only to receive further harm to his fingers and neck in the process.

Theft and Escape

After incapacitating Berk, Williams proceeded to steal his Toyota Camry and abandon him in the apartment complex’s parking lot. Fortunately, a nearby woman came to Berk’s aid and promptly contacted emergency services. Subsequently, law enforcement officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle near Highway 423 and Rockhill, setting off a pursuit to capture the suspect. Williams attempted to evade arrest by speeding away and later crashing the stolen car before trying to flee on foot.

Capturing the Suspect

Despite his efforts to escape, Williams was eventually apprehended by the police and taken into custody. He now faces serious charges, including aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, in addition to an outstanding warrant related to inappropriate actions involving a minor. As of now, Williams remains detained at the Denton County Jail.

This appalling incident has left Berk physically and emotionally scarred, highlighting the risks faced by ride-share drivers in the line of duty. His friend, Dustin Tovi, described Berk as a hardworking individual who had immigrated to Texas from Turkey to support his family financially. The attack on Berk serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability faced by those who work tirelessly to make ends meet, underscoring the need for greater safety measures and vigilance within the ride-sharing industry.
