Eminem and Duran Duran, Dolly Parton and A Tribe Called Quest were among the first nominees this year for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Cleveland-based institution announced that 17 artists and groups were being considered for Rock Hall Induction. These included Rage Against the Machine and Dionne Warwick.
Simon and Beck are also up for nominations. Eminem, , who is performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg. Mary J. Blige. Kendrick Lamar was also nominated in his first year.
The class of this year will be announced in May. An induction ceremony is planned for later in the year.
John Sykes, the Rock Hall’s head of foundation, stated that “this year’s ballot recognizes an eclectic group of incredible artists who each have had a profound effect on the sound of youth music,” in a Wednesday press release.
Before an artist can be inducted, they must have made their first commercial recording within the last 25 years.
Simon Le Bon , Duran Duran’s singer, thanked his fans on Twitter and for all their support throughout the years. He wrote that this distinction was due in large part because of the support from fans all over the globe for the past 40 years.
Other nominees include Kate Bush, DEVO and Eurythmics as well as Fela Kuti, MC5 or the New York Dolls.
