In parallel with increases in the price of fuel, tolls have increased by 2% on average in 2022. The 20 million French people who have planned to take the car to go to their holiday resort this summer will therefore have to adapt in order to to limit the cost of their journey. Certain routes to the South or Brittany thus make it possible to take advantage of segments of free motorways or expressways, explains Le Parisien.
Clément Beaune, the new Minister of Transport, will, for his part, engage in discussions with motorway companies as soon as the start of the school year “so that toll prices do not explode, despite inflation”. “What is clear is that we cannot have a revaluation of tolls, which could happen automatically if we do nothing, by 6, 7, 8% to keep up with inflation. That’s impossible”, declared the minister, Friday, July 22, 2022, at the microphone of CNews.
On July 10, Clément Beaune had already called on motorway companies to “make a move”. In response, Sanef, Vinci and APRR had announced a 10% reduction in toll expenses which will be paid in holiday vouchers until September 15. Checks must however be deposited in advance on an electronic toll badge.
In the longer term, however, nothing seems to have been decided yet. “Everything is possible,” said the minister, who would not exclude, at present, a potential toll freeze. The objective, according to Clément Beaune, would thus be to avoid an “explosion in toll rates at the beginning of next year”.
