Salmonella, Listeria, presence of foreign bodies… The causes of a recall procedure can be multiple. A few months ago, the business of Buitoni frozen pizzas and Kinder chocolates caused a stir. Since then, the French have been much more attentive to the various sheets published on the Rappel conso website and to the information sometimes displayed in stores.
In 2018, it was infant milk powder that had been contaminated, causing a real scandal at the time. This story, however, shed light on the existing dysfunctions in the management of recalls. They were then scattered on different sites, those of the Ministry of the Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, consumer associations, the media…
But at the time, there was no platform bringing together all the existing recall procedures. Thus, a few years later, in 2021, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention launched the Rappel Conso platform with the aim of better alerting consumers.
“As of April 1, 2021, the obligation for professionals to declare all their product recalls on the Rappel Conso site comes into force. Professionals whose products are the subject of a recall must now systematically enter their recall sheet on Rappel Conso.”, explained the website of the Ministry of the Economy.
