(New York) New York Rangers and forward Filip Chytil have agreed to terms on a four-year, $17.75 million contract extension, allowing the team to retain long-term another member of its core.
The Rangers announced the deal on Wednesday. Chytil will account for just under US$4.44 million a year on the team’s payroll until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The 23-year-old Chytil is enjoying his career-best season. He set career highs with 22 goals, 20 assists and 42 points in 66 games.
The Czech is sixth in team scoring and fourth on the team in goals. A first-round pick in 2017, Chytil scored 144 points in 342 NHL season and playoff games.
Chytil could have become a restricted free agent this summer. Center Mika Zibanejad is already under contract until 2030, star defenseman Adam Fox until 2029, veteran Chris Kreider until 2027, winger Artemi Panarin until 2026 and defending Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin until 2025.
