(Denver) Colorado Avalanche forward Andrew Cogliano suffered a broken neck in Game 6 of the first-round series against the Seattle Kraken on Friday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Cogliano will be sidelined indefinitely, added the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity since the team did not disclose the injury.
The incident occurred when Jordan Eberle tackled Cogliano dangerously. Eberle was punished for giving tape.
Cogliano initially took charge of the locker room, but returned to action later in the game as the Avalanche won 4-1 to tie the series 3-3. The final match will be presented Sunday in Denver.
Eberle did not have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety, which means he will not receive an additional sanction.
Cogliano, 35, helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup last spring. His 120 career playoff games is a team high right now.
The Avalanche are already without captain Gabriel Landeskog, who hasn’t played this season due to knee surgery. Forward Valeri Nichushkin is also sidelined for personal reasons.
