(Basel) Macklin Celebrini scored the game-winning goal with 2:09 remaining in overtime as Canada defeated Slovakia 4-3 in the bronze medal game at the Men’s World Under-18 Hockey Championship years, Sunday in Switzerland.
Celebrini also scored the game’s first goal in the second period. Colby Barlow and Matthew Wood also hit the mark for Canada, which outshot Canada 41-29.
Wood’s goal came with 70 seconds remaining in the third period, forcing an extra period.
Dalibor Dvorsky, Peter Cisar and Daniel Jencko cheated the vigilance of Quebec goalkeeper Gabriel D’Aigle.
Jencko’s goal gave the Slovaks a 3-2 lead with 4:27 remaining in the third period.
Canada led 2-1 after 40 minutes thanks to Barlow’s goal, which beat Samuel Urban at 19:47 of the second period.
Canada completed the preliminary round ranked second in Group A with a record of three wins and one loss.
Sweden had defeated him 8-0 in the very first game of the tournament on 20 April. The two clubs met again in the semi-finals on Saturday, and Sweden took another convincing victory, this time by the score of 7-2.
Sweden will also take part in the gold medal game against the United States later on Sunday.
Both countries have won all six of their tournament games, including the playoff matches. They finished first in Group A and Group B, respectively.
