(Dallas) Yanni Gourde scored at 12:17 in overtime and the Seattle Kraken defeated the Dallas Stars 5-4 on Tuesday, taking the lead 1-0 in the second-round series in the West.
Gourde got rid of Esa Lindell, grabbed a loose puck and beat Jake Oettinger with a sharp shot, turning around.
The Kraken overcame a herculean performance from Joe Pavelski, author of four goals on his return to the game.
He had been out for five games under concussion protocol.
Pavelski became the oldest player to score four goals in a playoff game, at 38 years and 295 days.
It was his 170th game in the playoffs. He is one of five players who have not won the cup with so many games on the clock.
Five different players scored for the Kraken. In the first round, they had 15 scorers at the expense of the defending Stanley Cup champions Avalanche.
Jaden Schwartz, Justin Schultz, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jordan Eberle also threaded the needle on Tuesday.
Seattle led 4-2 before two goals from Pavelski in the third period, 3:33 apart.
Philipp Grubauer made 31 saves, eight less than Oettinger.
The Kraken are undefeated in their last three away games.
Game 2 is Thursday night, again in Dallas.
