(Ottawa) Shopify will oppose a request from the Canada Revenue Agency that demands it turn over six years of documents for Canadian stores that use its software, the established company’s chief executive said Monday. in Ottawa.

Federal Court documents show that the Minister of National Revenue began requesting the records from Shopify in April.
The government said the records were being sought to verify that Canadian merchants were complying with the Income Tax Act and the Excise Tax Act.
All parties involved are requesting that a one-day hearing in the case be held between February 13 and March 17, 2024.
Shopify has laid off thousands of employees over the past two years and has seen its stock plummet after Lütke admitted he overestimated how much the COVID-19 pandemic would accelerate Shopify’s growth.
