New threat to consumers. As if phishing on bank details weren’t enough, scams are now targeting loyalty cards, and then precisely Carrefour loyalty cards. It is the consumer association UFC Que chose r which is sounding the alarm this week on this new fraudulent practice. The technique is always the same: the crooks recover customer IDs and passwords through various maneuvers such as fake e-mails (phishing, or phishing) or hacking, and appropriate them. Via the Carrefour brand app, they save the card on their smartphone and then make various in-store purchases. All they have to do is present the virtual card at the cash desk and give the hacked secret code. Child’s play.

UFC que Choisir details the case of a customer who, wanting to use her balance of more than 70 euros on her Carrefour loyalty card, discovered with amazement that her credit was at zero. In the summary of her expenses, there were two purchases in Paris, a city where she does not live. She appealed to the association to obtain reimbursement of the amount stolen from Carrefour. And it is far from being the only one: for several weeks, the association 60 million consumers has been receiving testimonials from customers of the brand complaining of sums debited without their consent. So it is with Fabienne, who for her part saw 207 euros fly away in a store in Toulon, while she lives in Draguignan.

But beware, warns 60 million consumers: Carrefour does not reimburse stolen pots each time. The brand instead encourages its customers to “secure their data” via an e-mail reminding them of the good reflexes to adopt: change their password regularly, and choose a secret code that is difficult to guess. If you have been the victim of theft, also consider filing a complaint and contact Carrefour customer service to try to get the lost amount reimbursed.
