(New York) The New York Knicks are suing the Toronto Raptors, from whom they are demanding more than $10 million for theft of confidential data, and do not want to have the dispute decided by NBA boss Adam Silver, write several media on Monday.
The New York Post, The Athletic and ESPN have had access to a court document, the Knicks’ response to the Raptors’ request to drop the suit filed in federal district court in New York in August.
The Knicks assure that a former video assistant, recruited by Toronto this summer after three years in New York, transmitted to his new franchise thousands of confidential documents belonging to the Knicks, including reports and video analyses. Among the other people implicated is Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic.
The Raptors requested in October that the complaint be dropped and the dispute be decided by the NBA and its boss Adam Silver, which would limit damages to a maximum of $10 million.
A proposal refused by the New York franchise which demands more than $10 million and advances the professional and privileged link between Adam Silver and Toronto owner Larry Tanenbaum, also president of the NBA board of governors.
“Tanenbaum is Silver’s boss over whom he exercises control and whose career and salary he heavily influences,” write the Knicks, who report former comments by Silver calling Tanenbaum “a role model in my life.”
