(Boucherville) Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Antonin Verreault was named player of the week in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Monday.
In three away games, the 19-year-old from Laval scored two goals and collected six assists. The Huskies won two in three games to consolidate their lead at the top of the West Division.
Verreault first contributed to his team’s comeback against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Friday evening, by scoring the equalizing goal and providing an assist on the Huskies’ winning goal in the third period. The Huskies finally took the measure of the Armada 3-2.
Then, the next day, the veteran amassed three assists, including one on the winning goal, to allow the Huskies to defeat the Victoriaville Tigres 7-2.
Finally, the Quebecer obtained a goal and two assists in his team’s 5-3 defeat against the Shawinigan Cataractes, putting an end to the Abiti club’s four-game winning streak. Verreault nevertheless extended his streak of games with at least one point to four.
Verreault’s latest offensive performance propelled him into a tie for fourth among Cecchini Tour scorers with 44 points in 30 games. The Laval resident, who was acquired from the Gatineau Matériaux during the QMJHL draft last summer, was invited to the Edmonton Oilers training camp for the past two seasons.
He succeeds Baie-Comeau Drakkar goaltender Olivier Ciarlo for the QMJHL player of the week title.
