(Dallas) Marc-André Fleury will have to wait at least until Friday if he wishes to take second place in history among the most successful goaltenders in the NHL.
Jesper Wallstedt is scheduled to make his first NHL start on Wednesday when the Minnesota Wild visit the Dallas Stars. This was made clear by head coach John Hynes after the club’s morning training.
Hynes added that while the organization would like Fleury to get his 552nd win at age 39 – and break a tie with Patrick Roy for second – at home, the main reason to leave him out on Wednesday is him grant rest.
Fleury has started the Wild’s last five games, compiling a 1-4-0 record.
The Wild will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday and the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.
Fleury and Roy are trailed only by the 691 victories of Martin Brodeur, whose 22-season career ended in 2015.
Wallstedt, 21, was the Wild’s 2021 first-round pick, 20th overall. The Swede has an 11-9-0 record with the Iowa farm club.
