Since 2000, the “Remarkable Tree of France” label has awarded this status to 800 trees. Trees with often unique characteristics, which embellish the living and natural French heritage. This label was created by an association, A.R.B.R.E.S for (Remarkable Trees: Assessment, Research, Studies and Safeguarding). An association which today has 1000 members. But then, how are these “Remarkable” trees identified and what are their criteria?
According to the association itself, the criteria are first of all physical:
The criteria are also aesthetic: does the tree have a particular shape? An original color in perfect harmony with its environment? Does the tree have a twisted shape? The A.R.B.R.E.S association also specifies that subjectivity is also very important. Everyone has a different sensitivity.
As you will have understood, the criteria are numerous and complex. Here is some of the trees that have obtained the title of remarkable trees in the Brittany region, and more particularly in the departments of Finistère and Côtes-d’Armor.
