A ten-meter-high pile of scrap metal has been burning in the harbor in the Hamburg district of Harburg since the early hours of the morning. As the “Hamburger Morgenpost” (Mopo) reports, a huge cloud of smoke can be seen. Now the fire department is warning residents.

In the Heimfeld, Harburg and Wilhelmsburg districts, residents should keep their doors and windows closed. A toxic cloud is currently moving from the fire area towards the northeast. According to a police spokesman, “several tons of scrap” are burning at the recycling center. The fire broke out at 4:16 a.m.

A fire boat tries to help with the difficult extinguishing of the fire. As “Mopo” writes, it is not expected that the fire will be put out soon.
