Igor Severino Asks NAC to Release Purse Amid UFC Biting Suspension
Igor Severino’s biting incident at UFC on ESPN 53 has left him in a tough spot, both professionally and personally. The Brazilian fighter is currently suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) following his disqualification for biting his opponent, Andre Lima, in their March 23 fight in Las Vegas.
During a recent NAC meeting, Severino took the opportunity to address the commission directly. He requested the release of his withheld purse so he can cover his living expenses while awaiting a decision on his punishment. Severino, who was quickly released from the UFC after the incident, expressed his financial struggles since the fight.
The 21-year-old flyweight fighter shared his concerns in Portuguese, stating, “I would like to know if it would be possible to release part of my purse since that fight I haven’t been able to pay all my bills, and I’ve been living with a friend and training partner. I’m afraid that I might even be kicked out of my gym, as I’m not able to meet any dues, and I’m even having trouble eating. I would like to know if it would be possible to release part of my purse.”
While the NAC did not provide an immediate response to Severino’s request, executive director Jeff Mullen assured him that the commission would consider his appeal and reach out to him directly. Severino’s case is not expected to be revisited until the next NAC meeting on June 25.
As Severino awaits a resolution on his suspension and the release of his purse, the MMA community continues to follow his story closely. For more updates and discussions on this topic and other MMA news, be sure to engage with fans on the MMA Junkie Instagram page and YouTube channel.
