Red Arrows Soar at English Riviera Airshow 2024
The skies over Devon were filled with the roar of engines and the graceful maneuvers of some of the UK’s most iconic aircraft at the English Riviera Airshow 2024. The event, which kicked off on Saturday along the Paignton seafront, showcased thrilling displays by the renowned RAF Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon jets, and a D-Day Memorial display.
Unfortunately, a tragic incident involving a Spitfire in Lincolnshire led to the cancellation of the planned RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. However, spectators were still treated to an impressive lineup of aircraft, including the Blenheim, P-51 Mustang, and Supermarine Spitfire as part of the D-Day Memorial Display.
In addition to the aerial performances, the airshow offered a range of on-the-ground entertainment, such as music, children’s activities, and craft stalls, ensuring a fun-filled experience for attendees of all ages.
Reflecting on the challenges faced due to the recent events, Torbay Council expressed their commitment to exploring alternative flying assets for future airshows. Meanwhile, Carolyn Custerson, chief executive of English Riviera Business Improvement District, highlighted the unique appeal of the area for pilots, stating, “We have a natural amphitheatre here that’s enviable. And pilots love to fly in this arena.”
As the English Riviera Airshow 2024 continues to captivate audiences with its spectacular displays and vibrant atmosphere, aviation enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the thrilling showcases yet to come.
