In a groundbreaking move, Porsche has announced the introduction of a hybrid version to its iconic 911 Carrera GTS as part of the 992 generation facelift.
The newly unveiled Porsche 911 Carrera GTS hybrid marks a significant milestone for the brand, combining electric power with the traditional high-performance capabilities of the model. Harnessing the expertise gained from endurance racing, the hybrid system features two electric motors – one with 40 kW (54 hp) and 150 Nm of torque, integrated into the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox, and a second smaller motor delivering 11 kW (15 hp) located in the turbocharger. This innovative setup eliminates the need for a second turbocharger, optimizing performance and efficiency.
Powered by a 400-volt battery with a capacity of 1.9 kWh, the T-Hybrid technology complements a new 3.6-liter flat-six engine, boosting the total power output to 541 horsepower – an increase of 45 kW (61 hp) compared to its predecessor. With a torque of 610 Nm, the 911 Carrera GTS hybrid accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h. Despite a slight weight increase of 50 kilograms, the hybrid variant maintains impressive performance figures, albeit with CO2 emissions that attract a maximum tax penalty.
Meanwhile, the base Carrera model receives upgrades to its 3-liter turbocharged flat-six engine, now producing 394 hp (290 kW) and 450 Nm of torque. With enhanced aerodynamics and chassis improvements, the 911 GTS features a revised exterior design with new front and rear elements, while the interior boasts digital instrumentation and a push-button ignition system.
Offered in both coupe, cabriolet, and Targa body styles, the 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS starts at €174,900, with deliveries set to commence later in the year. Embracing a new era of hybrid power, Porsche continues to push the boundaries of performance and innovation with the latest addition to its legendary 911 lineup.
