Liverpool City Council Issues Half a Million Pounds Worth of Bus Lane Fines
Liverpool City Council has been busy issuing bus lane fines to motorists, with a staggering 17,566 fines issued in the last year alone. This has resulted in the Council raking in at least half a million pounds from these fines.
The figures, obtained by Personal Injury Claims UK, show that the fines have been issued over just two bus lanes in the City. Drivers who receive these fines are required to pay a minimum of £30, which can increase to £60 if not paid within 14 days.
Between April 6, 2023, and April 5, 2024, a total of 4,689 drivers failed to pay within the allotted time frame, resulting in them likely having to pay the increased £90 fine. The majority of fines were issued for the Ranelagh Street Bus Gate at Great Charlotte Street, where a total of 12,542 Penalty Charge Notices were issued. Lime Street Bus Link was the other location where fines were issued in the City center.
Liverpool City Council has now become one of the top 10 Metropolitan District Councils in the UK for issuing bus lane fines. This hefty amount of fines has certainly caught the attention of motorists in the City.
