After a fatal stabbing occurred at a wedding party in Berlin-Kreuzberg in December last year, charges have now been brought against the alleged perpetrator. As the rbb reported, the 30-year-old is accused of manslaughter, among other things. The public prosecutor’s office announced this information on Wednesday.
The altercation took place last December in a ballroom on the busy Skalitzer Straße in Berlin-Kreuzberg, reports the rbb. The 30-year-old defendant is said to have initially tried to lure his victim outside.
When the 29-year-old refused, the accused is said to have thrown a glass at him and then attacked him with a knife. A 25-year-old who intervened in the altercation was also stabbed. The 29-year-old, however, was fatally stabbed in the left chest. The guests were able to hold the perpetrator until the police arrived.
As the rbb reports, the public prosecutor currently assumes that the motive for the crime could be a relationship dispute. The attack could be the result of a deep personal feud between those involved, which began weeks before the incident. The accused is suspected of having attacked his partner and made serious threats to her, the rbb reports.
The 30-year-old is said to have strangled his former partner in their shared apartment before the crime and hit her on the head with a vacuum cleaner tube. Under threat of violence and death, he is said to have forced her to file a complaint against the man who was later killed for alleged rape. This is what she eventually did.
According to rbb, the defendant, who has been in custody since December, is now charged with grievous bodily harm, coercion and manslaughter in connection with grievous bodily harm.
In the same month last year, a similar incident occurred in Cologne. At a wedding in the Vogelsang district, an argument is said to have escalated and led to an alleged knife attack.
At least three people were injured in the altercation, and two victims were briefly in critical condition, a police spokesman reported after the incident. The motive and the exact course of events are not yet known.
