(Santa Clara) The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly offered a two-year contract extension to star running back Christian McCaffrey, the Associated Press revealed Tuesday.

A source familiar with the deal said the pact would bring in US$19 million annually. This person requested anonymity to speak with the AP on Tuesday because the agreement has not been confirmed by the California organization.

McCaffrey participated in the 49ers’ mandatory mini-training camp on Tuesday after sitting out optional practices the previous two weeks.

McCaffrey helped transform the 49ers’ offense after being acquired from the Carolina Panthers midway through the 2022 season.

In 27 games with the Niners, McCaffrey rushed for 2,205 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. He also caught 119 passes for 1,028 yards and 11 rushing yards.

The American led the NFL last season with 2,023 yards and tied for the league lead with 21 touchdowns.

McCaffrey, who turns 28 on Friday, is now under contract with the 49ers through the conclusion of the 2027 season.
