A British man who identifies himself as the Batman villain ‘Joker’ is on trial for allegedly attempting to murder his former partner.

In the tranquil town of Fordingbridge, Hampshire, an attempted murder shocked the community. As the BBC reports, 45-year-old Anthony Y. is accused of attacking his former partner Jenny D. The man, who identified himself as the villain ‘Joker’ from the Batman films, denied the allegations in court, Southampton Crown Court reported.

Jenny D. was attacked in her home in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, in August 2023. Afterwards, after the woman regained consciousness, Anthony Y. allegedly tried to kill her by strangling her. The BBC quotes prosecutor Matthew Farmer as saying: “She, helpless, vulnerable and frightened after the first attack, describes how he lifted her onto the bed, put both hands around her neck and tried with all his strength to take her life.”

According to the report, the attack only ended when Jenny D.’s 21-year-old daughter knocked on the door and alerted the police. According to prosecutor Farmer, the couple had a “difficult” on-off relationship over a period of two years.

Photos were presented in court showing a pillow with the image of the ‘Joker’ and the face of Jenny D. Above the image of the film villain was the quote “Why so serious?” from the Batman film “The Dark Knight”. Another photo showed a makeshift shelter in Dalton’s garden, which Yewman had lived in a few days before his arrest.

Yewman claimed he acted in self-defense after Dalton attacked him. As the Mirror reports, he referred to Jenny D. as his “Harley Quinn.” In court, according to the Mirror, he said: “I love her more than anything in the world.” The trial is continuing.

Another criminal ‘Joker’ fan was on the loose in Tokyo in 2021. As the “Online Zeitung Deutschland” reports, passengers on the Keio train line experienced a night of horror on Halloween when a 24-year-old man in a ‘Joker’ costume carried out an arson and knife attack. The perpetrator injured a total of 18 people in the ‘Joker’ costume, with a 70-year-old man in critical condition.

According to the “Online Zeitung Deutschland”, the man said that as a great admirer he had chosen his costume specifically for this attack. Due to failed friendships and career goals, he was seeking the death penalty. Eyewitnesses described the attacker as “feelingless”, and government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno condemned the incident as a “cruel and brutal” act.
