Faithful to its tradition, La Presse is welcoming a cohort of interns this summer, whose signatures readers will very soon be able to recognize – in texts and photos.

Under the supervision of supervisors Daphné Cameron and Gabrielle Duchaine, the 10 interns will be called upon to cover a plethora of topics and respond to last-minute assignments. Their work will feed all daily platforms, whether La Presse, the lapresse.ca site or our mobile application.

Coming from varied backgrounds, the interns will also have the opportunity to add their color to the newspaper by presenting original ideas. Along the way, they will be able to sharpen their sense of the news and sharpen their journalistic pen. In addition to the summer cohort, La Presse has been welcoming Chloé Bourquin, winner of the Fernand-Seguin scholarship for scientific journalism, for almost a month.

Daphné Cameron herself started out at La Presse as an intern in 2008. In the summer of 2023, as division head of general news, she was in close contact with aspiring journalists. It was these two experiences – and a desire to “give back” – that fueled his desire to serve as a supervisor this year.

“The internship at La Presse was an exceptional experience for me where I had the chance to learn the profession by working alongside remarkable journalists. After 15 years in the newsroom, I wanted to pass on my passion for journalism to the next generation. »

Gabrielle Duchaine, who has already taken on the role of master, compares her work to that of a “coach”. “The goal is to support the interns both in developing their own subjects and in covering current events and to guide them in the journalistic approach and writing,” she explains, speaking of a “very stimulating” experience.

Jean-François Bégin, the newspaper’s senior news director, believes that “the summer internship has long been an exceptional gateway to the journalistic profession.” He himself comes from it, just like Hugo Dumas, Isabelle Hachey, Alice Girard-Bossé, Marissa Groguhé and more than sixty artisans working in our newsroom today. More recently, Fannie Arcand, intern from the 2023 cohort, joined the team.

“Participants benefit from close supervision offered by experienced journalists who devote themselves entirely to it. La Presse is pleased to contribute to the training of the next generation, in a framework which puts forward the principles of rigor, fairness, independence and respect at the heart of our journalistic approach,” asserts Mr. Begin.

This summer, the intern cohort will include 10 aspiring journalists from diverse backgrounds:
