In his government statement on the security situation, Chancellor Olaf Scholz clearly spoke out in favor of deporting serious criminals such as the knife attacker in Mannheim to Afghanistan and Syria. “Such criminals should be deported; they have no place here – even if they come from Syria and Afghanistan,” said the SPD politician in the Bundestag on Thursday. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is working to make this possible.
We will no longer tolerate the glorification and celebration of terrorist crimes. Scholz announced that the deportation regulations would be tightened so that “approval of terrorist crimes would result in a serious interest in deportation.” “Anyone who glorifies terrorism is going against all of our values - and should be deported.”
In general, the following applies: “Anyone who kills a police officer must be punished as severely as possible.” The criminal law will be specifically tightened in this regard. “There is no law of the jungle in Germany – anyone who thinks otherwise will have a huge problem with our justice system.” Scholz also stressed that it is already possible to designate weapon and knife-free zones. These should be made possible nationwide.
At the same time, the Chancellor warned against placing the 20 million people with an immigration background under general suspicion: “Anyone who abuses crimes like the one in Mannheim is lighting the fuse to our cohesion. People with an immigration background are part of our society – we will not allow ourselves to be divided.”
