A man parked in a short-term parking space at the airport for 50 minutes. He paid around 750 euros for it – but it should actually have only been around 14 euros.

James Flack actually only wanted to pick up family members from Manchester airport. But that became very expensive for the man, as the Manchester Evening News reports.

According to the report, James parked in a short-term parking space in Terminal One. He was there for 50 minutes. The final bill was 638 pounds (around 750 euros). This was a shock for James, who hadn’t even noticed the amount at first.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “The fee should have been £12 when I left the car park. Due to the height, angle and glare from the sun, I couldn’t clearly see the digital display on the pay machine at the exit.” But since he knew he would have to pay £12 (about 14 euros), he simply paid with his card.

A mistake, as it turned out the next day. James discovered the large sum on his bank statement. The bank could no longer stop the payment. He also contacted the airport and had to wait for a response.

As the Manchester Evening News writes, the news portal finally took up the case – successfully. James was informed in an email that he would get his money back. A spokesperson for the airport apologized for the inconvenience.

Two Americans were also shocked when they saw their cell phone bill after a trip to Switzerland: Rene Remund and his wife were supposed to pay $143,000, according to ABC Action News. The reason for this was the data volume they had used abroad. However, the couple had informed the cell phone provider of their plans before the trip.

Remund contacted a lawyer, but he received no response. Then ABC Action News took up the matter. Finally, the American received a call from an employee of the company. He was offered a credit for the amount.
