(Longueuil) The 1,200 white-collar workers in the City of Longueuil have managed to agree on the terms of an agreement in principle with their employer in order to renew their collective agreement which expired more than three years ago, their union announced.
In a press release, the Canadian Union of Public Employees confirmed that an agreement in principle was reached with the employer party on Thursday, but did not reveal its content – as is usual in such circumstances.
The agreement will first be presented to members at a general meeting to be held on June 18.
The last collective agreement for white-collar workers in Longueuil expired on January 1, 2021. According to the union, discussions surrounding its renewal began in May 2022.
In recent months, the union has mentioned that its demands concern, among other things, an increase in the salary scale, access to the four-day week, teleworking and the recognition of employees whose working conditions are precarious.
White-collar workers thus demanded the same conditions as those granted to blue-collar workers.
Union members held two strikes this spring: a first, two days, in March, as well as a second, four days, in April.
The workers affected by this negotiation are office workers, technicians, professionals and school crossing guards.
