The weather has already taken its toll at the Canadian Grand Prix, coloring the first free practice session on Friday.

Lando Norris, at McLaren, set the fastest lap, on an initially wet track which dried as the cars drove on it, complicating the work of the teams and drivers. Only Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc managed to position themselves less than a second behind the Briton.

Zhou Guanyu (Sauber) was unable to finish the session after hitting a wall, while Jack Doohan (Alpine) and Alexander Albon (Williams) did not even start.

The first tests of the weekend were delayed after a storm of rain and hail stormed Parc Jean-Drapeau a little after midday. It was unclear a few minutes before the session was scheduled to start (1:30 p.m.) whether the cars were coming out of the pits. They finally appeared a little before 2 p.m., under sunny skies.
