(Moscow) Russia said on Saturday it had repelled a Ukrainian drone attack targeting a military airfield in North Ossetia, in the Russian Caucasus.
“Three aerial drones were shot down by anti-aircraft defense systems in Mozdok”, a large city in North Ossetia, regional leader Sergei Menyailo said on Telegram.
“According to initial information, the drones came from the Ukrainian side,” he said.
This is the first drone attack targeting North Ossetia, located around 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border, since the Russian operation in Ukraine began in February 2022.
The attack “targeted a local military airfield,” Mr Meniaïlo assured.
He reported “small damage and fires”, stressing that “no one was injured”.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed in a statement that it had repelled a drone attack in North Ossetia, without further details.
Ukraine, which has been facing Russian offensives for more than two years, regularly responds by attacking Russian regions.
Kyiv had promised to bring the fighting to Russian soil in retaliation for the numerous bombings on its territory.
