Angels Struggle to Capitalize as Astros Secure Series Win
ANAHEIM — The Angels’ string of success came to an end as they fell to the Astros in a 7-1 defeat, unable to capitalize on key opportunities throughout the game. Despite their recent sweep of the Padres, the Angels were unable to carry that momentum forward, ultimately losing to the Astros for the second consecutive game.
Houston took an early lead, with Jose Altuve and Jake Meyers delivering RBI singles in the third inning to give the Astros a 2-0 advantage. Yordan Alvarez extended their lead with a powerful two-run home run in the fifth inning, solidifying his dominance over the Angels’ pitching staff.
Tyler Anderson, who had been on a four-game streak of impressive performances, struggled against the Astros, allowing four runs in six innings. While Anderson’s outing wasn’t a complete disaster, it fell short of his recent standards, highlighting the Angels’ need for stronger pitching performances moving forward.
The Angels’ offense also faced challenges, failing to convert on multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game. Despite reaching base multiple times, the team went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left a total of 13 runners stranded on base. Nolan Schanuel’s late home run provided a glimmer of hope, but the Angels were ultimately unable to mount a comeback.
Looking ahead to avoid a sweep, the Angels will rely on left-hander Patrick Sandoval to lead them against the Astros in their upcoming matchup. The team will need to regroup and refocus in order to bounce back from their recent struggles and secure a much-needed victory.
