Residents Displaced After Fire Engulfs North Saanich Home
North Saanich residents were left displaced after a devastating early morning house fire on Highview Place. The blaze, which began around 1:40 a.m. on June 9, 2024, engulfed the home in flames, leaving it a complete loss.
Witness Michele Sealey captured photos of the towering flames, which could be seen from a distance on Wain Road. The fire was so intense that it illuminated the entire bay, according to a caller from across the Saanich Inlet on the Malahat.
Firefighters from North Saanich, Central Saanich, and Sidney departments worked together with about 30 firefighters and 12 fire trucks to battle the blaze. Despite the challenging hillside location of the home, crews were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures.
While no injuries were reported, the residents of the home are now displaced. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation to determine the source of the devastating blaze.
As the community comes together to support those affected by the fire, the North Saanich Volunteer Firefighters Association emphasized the importance of fire safety and preparedness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
