Yankees Ace Gerrit Cole Shows Promise in Second Rehab Start
Gerrit Cole showcased his skills in his second start for Double-A Somerset, pitching 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball. The New York Yankees’ star allowed only two hits, struck out four, and walked one against Hartford, impressing fans with his performance.
The 33-year-old AL Cy Young Award winner threw 44 of 57 pitches for strikes at Bridgewater Township, New Jersey. Despite giving up a home run to Ryan Ritter, Cole retired his last eight batters and showed signs of returning to top form.
This outing comes after Cole’s first game action since March 1 when he was diagnosed with nerve inflammation and edema. Following a period of rest and bullpen sessions, Cole is on track for a potential return to the Yankees’ rotation in the upcoming weeks.
Cole is expected to make at least one more minor league start before rejoining the Yankees, with a possible return date set for the home series against Baltimore from June 18-20.
