Scottish FA President Advocates for Steve Clarke to Lead Scotland into World Cup
Scottish FA president, Mike Mulraney, is pushing for Steve Clarke to continue as the head coach of Scotland beyond the Euros and guide the team to the World Cup and beyond. Clarke recently made history by leading Scotland to consecutive European Championships after a 23-year absence from major tournaments.
The SFA is now setting its sights on the World Cup, with the goal of qualifying for the 2026 tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Mulraney believes that Clarke is the right person to achieve this goal and wants to reward him for his success. However, he emphasizes the need for patience in discussions about Clarke’s future with the team.
Mulraney praised Clarke as a valuable asset to the nation, the Scottish Football Association, and the players and fans. He highlighted Clarke’s contributions both on and off the field, including the economic impact of the team’s success. Mulraney expressed confidence in Clarke’s leadership and hinted at the possibility of him continuing as the team’s manager in the long term.
Following the SFA’s AGM, Mulraney announced a £50 million investment plan for Scottish football facilities over the next five years. The aim is to improve facilities across the country and ensure community access and fairness in pricing. Despite a recommendation to increase financial packages for key board members, Mulraney and vice-president Les Gray declined the opportunity to boost their salaries, opting to prioritize the development of football in Scotland.
Overall, the Scottish FA is committed to supporting the growth and success of Scottish football under Clarke’s leadership and ensuring that the sport remains accessible and inclusive for all.
