Calgary Teen Remembered for Sportsmanship After Fatal Stabbing
A Calgary teenager who tragically lost his life in a fatal stabbing incident was remembered by his lacrosse club for his unwavering sportsmanship. Dean Visser, 16, was involved in a fight with another boy when he was fatally stabbed. A 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
The altercation took place in the southeast community of Forest Lawn, with police responding to a call about the fight on Thursday evening. Visser was found at the scene with stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away.
The accused killer, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in youth court with his mother present. A bail hearing is scheduled for later this month.
Visser, who was a player with Axemen Lacrosse, was described as a dedicated athlete by his club. He had been playing lacrosse since the age of seven and was set to graduate in 2023. The organization paid tribute to him on social media, expressing their condolences and remembering him as a shining light.
An online fundraiser has been set up for the Visser family, highlighting Dean’s zest for life and adventurous spirit. He was not only a talented athlete in lacrosse but also enjoyed spending time outdoors with his loved ones.
