Weather Update and Community Events in Wise County
STORM CHANCES ON THE HORIZON – Following a quiet weekend, Wise County residents can expect stormy weather on Monday, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4 p.m. The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures, with a high near 81 degrees.
DECATUR PD VACATION DAY – The Decatur Police Department will be hosting its annual summer vacation day on June 20 and June 21 at 1601 S. State St. Activities on June 20, for ages 7-10, will include bike safety, water games, and an anti-bullying program. June 21 activities, for ages five and six, will feature fun activities with officers and water games. Registration applications can be obtained from the Decatur Police Department or decaturtx.org. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
COLLINS SKILLS CAMP RETURNS TO PARADISE – The Kingdom Hoops Collins Skills Camp, led by former Harlem Globetrotter Mandrae Collins, will take place from July 1-3 at Paradise High School Gymnasium. The camp is open to athletes in second through 10th grades and will focus on enhancing basketball skills. Registration information can be found at kingdomhoopsllc.com, with a deadline of June 22.
WISE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY EVENT – The Wise County Democratic Party will be hosting a Meet and Greet event at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Decatur on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Highlights from the recent Texas Democratic Convention in El Paso will be discussed, covering various topics including education, veterans issues, gun violence, and more.
CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS – The Decatur City Council will be considering an interlocal agreement with Boyd for dispatch services, while the Bridgeport City Council will discuss agreements for upcoming events and street rehabilitation. Both meetings will take place tonight at 6 p.m.
WCCA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – The Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers for Meals on Wheels routes in Boyd, Bridgeport, and Decatur. Paid driver positions are also available.
FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS – Memorial services for Sharran H. Brooks, Janetta Wood, Robert Cook, and Royce Williams are pending at various funeral homes in the area. A funeral for James “Don” Chambers will be held today at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
