(London) The leader of the British anti-immigration party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, was targeted on Tuesday during a campaign trip by throwing objects from a demonstrator who was arrested by the police, a week after being doused in milkshake.
The high-profile politician, who caused a surprise by entering the campaign last week, shared on X a video of the incident which occurred in Barnsley, in the north of England.
As he greets passers-by from the floor of a double-decker bus, we see a man throwing objects at him from a construction site, including a cup of coffee taken from a trash can.
Nigel Farage claimed to have also been hit by cement that was still wet.
We see the man running away and being arrested by the police.
The latter specified that it had arrested a 28-year-old man for disturbing public order.
“I will not be intimidated by violent leftists who hate our country,” responded Nigel Farage on X.
For his first trip last week to the constituency of Clacton-on-Sea (south-east) where he is running, Nigel Farage, key architect of the Brexit victory in 2016, was targeted by a jet of milkshake at the banana.
A 25-year-old woman is scheduled to go on trial July 2 for assault.
The entry into the campaign of the 60-year-old former MEP has so far been the biggest surprise of the campaign for the July 4 legislative elections.
She comes as her party, Reform UK, rises in the polls and risks depriving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives of valuable seats. The polls announce a very large victory for the Labor opposition, led by Keir Starmer.
Nigel Farage assures that the Tories have already lost and presents himself as best placed to lead the opposition to Labour.
In 2019, a man was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for throwing a salted caramel banana milkshake at Nigel Farage during the campaign for the European elections, the last in which the United Kingdom took part before the Brexit.
