(Ottawa) Conservatives say they will oppose new tax measures presented in the Liberal budget.
The comments come just hours before the House of Commons votes on a Liberal motion to force Canadians who profit from asset sales to pay more tax on capital gains.
The Conservatives did not make their position on the capital gains adjustment known until Tuesday.
The Liberals say this is a tax fairness measure, aimed at forcing the richest Canadians to pay their fair share.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said in a statement that this will not hurt billionaires, but will affect farmers, small businesses and doctors.
He pledged to create “a task force, made up of entrepreneurs, inventors, farmers and workers (but not lobbyists), that will propose a reform of the system” within 60 days of becoming prime minister that would simplify tax rules, cut taxes and reduce subsidies to businesses.
