Bavaria is sticking with the general shop closing time of 8 p.m. This is what the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ulrike Scharf (CSU) plans for a new shop closing law, which she plans to present shortly.
“The basic pillars will remain, but the outdated law will be replaced by modern regulations,” Scharf told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. The concept, which the newspaper has seen exclusively, also provides for an extension of shopping nights. Digital micro-supermarkets will be allowed to open around the clock and close supply gaps on Sundays.
In twelve of the 16 federal states, shopping is possible around the clock on weekdays. In Bavaria and Saarland, shops are allowed to open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. A proposal by the Munich CSU, which had called for shops to be closed until 10 p.m., seems to have no chance. The CSU and the Free Voters in the state parliament are against it.
