Fitbit is making a big change next month, as the fitbit.com web dashboard is set to shut down on July 8. Google, which owns Fitbit, is focusing on the Fitbit mobile apps for Android and iOS as the main platform for users.
The mobile apps were redesigned last fall and will now be the primary way for users to access their Fitbit data and features. Google is working on new features like the LLM-powered Fitbit Labs to provide valuable insights to users through the app.
The Fitbit team explains that the app includes all the features that users love from the web dashboard, as well as additional features that were developed exclusively for the app. Users will still be able to access their activity, nutrition, sleep, and weight logging in the Fitbit app after the web dashboard shuts down.
While this move may not come as a surprise to some, as the fitbit.com website has not been updated for a while and even experienced an outage recently, some users may miss the larger web interface and additional functionality, especially for food logging.
Despite the changes, Fitbit users are encouraged to reach out for help with navigating the app and finding any features they may need assistance with. The Fitbit team is ready to support users during this transition.
In addition to the dashboard shutdown, other changes are happening in the Fitbit ecosystem. Google Wallet will be replacing Fitbit Pay in July, and the Fitbit.com shop will be closed, with products now available on the Google Store.
As Fitbit continues to evolve under Google’s ownership, users can expect more updates and improvements to the app to enhance their health and wellness tracking experience. Stay tuned for more news and developments from Fitbit and Google in the future.
