Canadian Bianca Andreescu defeated Chinese Yue Yuan 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16 of the ‘s-Hertogenbosch Tennis Open on Wednesday.
Andreescu, who is ranked 228th in the world, defeated Yuan, the sixth seed, after an hour and 21 minutes on the Dutch pitch.
The Ontarian will face the winner of the duel between the Japanese Naomi Osaka and the Dutch Suzan Lamens in the quarter-finals.
Andreescu, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, made her return to action at the French Open after a long absence caused by an injury suffered at the National Bank Montreal Open in August 2023.
In women’s doubles, Ontarian Gabriela Dabrowski and her playing partner Erin Routliffe soundly defeated Britons Alicia Barnett and Freya Christie 6-1, 6-0 in 48 minutes in the first round of the grass tournament in Nottingham.
For her part, British Columbian Rebecca Marino will try to qualify for the quarter-finals of the women’s singles tournament when she faces third-seeded Brit Katie Boulter later today.
