Ruba Ghazal announced Wednesday that she was entering the race to become co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, after the resignation of Émilise Lessard-Therrien last April.
“In the last few weeks, I have taken the time to reflect on the year we have experienced together, on the future, […] and I have come to the conclusion that the vision I have will allow Québec solidaire to progress,” declared the Mercier MNA, surrounded by around fifteen activists at Parc La Fontaine.
Ruba Ghazal’s two priorities in this race are party unity and Quebec independence.
The member for Mercier is the first to embark on this new race to become female co-spokesperson for the party, a few months after losing to Émilise Lessard-Therrien after a very close vote. The former co-spokeswoman won last November’s runoff race with 50.3 percent of the vote, compared to Ruba Ghazal’s 49.7 percent.
Christine Labrie, who came in third, became the party’s interim co-spokesperson after Émilise Lessard-Therrien resigned. By accepting this mandate, the Sherbrooke MNA gave up the possibility of running in the next co-spokesperson election, which will take place next fall.
