The co-chairman of the Saarland regional association of the new party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), Randolf Jobst, has resigned from his position with immediate effect. On Friday, he cited comments by the co-chairman Astrid Schramm on how to deal with the AfD and the BSW’s lack of response to this at the federal level as reasons. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had previously reported on this.

A few days ago, the former Saarland Left Party leader Schramm told Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) with regard to the AfD that if there were overlaps in terms of content, cooperation in local parliaments was certainly conceivable. The members would have to decide on cooperation on site. Schramm ruled out coalitions.

Schramm’s statements were shocking for him and other people who are key figures in the Saarland state executive committee – which was founded just three months ago – Jobst told the German Press Agency on Friday. He had asked the national leadership of his party several times to make it clear that there should be no cooperation with the AfD at the local level either. Since such a clarification had not been made, he saw no alternative to immediate resignation. He wanted to pull the ripcord, said Jobst.
