After allegedly knocking over an elderly person in Schliersee, Bavaria, a man attacked an officer with a knife who wanted to arrest him, according to police.
A 49-year-old man is said to have knocked over and seriously injured an 84-year-old in Schliersee, Bavaria, and later attacked a police officer with a knife. The officer from a special operations unit (SEK) only escaped injury in the incident on Friday afternoon thanks to his protective equipment, police said on Saturday. Without it, he would “certainly have been seriously injured,” said a spokesman. An investigating judge issued a detention order against the suspect on Saturday. According to police, the 49-year-old German was taken to a psychiatric hospital. Officers are now investigating on suspicion of bodily harm and attempted manslaughter.
According to the police, the man first knocked over an 84-year-old passerby in the center of Schliersee, south of Munich. The senior citizen suffered serious but not life-threatening head injuries. The police assumed that he was accidentally attacked by the 49-year-old. After the push, the suspected perpetrator fled to his apartment. When the police visited him there, he threatened to use a knife, which is why numerous officers and the special forces were called in.
During his arrest, the 49-year-old is said to have stabbed a SEK officer several times. The officer remained unharmed. The 49-year-old was slightly injured during the arrest. It initially remained unclear why the man is said to have attacked the 84-year-old and later the officer.
