There are a number of things that are forbidden when watching football in public on the German European Championship fan miles. You should definitely follow these rules when watching football in public.

The following rules ensure that mass events run peacefully. They apply to most German fan miles. You can find further city-specific rules and offers in UEFA’s Event Guide 2024.

Bringing alcohol and drinks in glass bottles is generally prohibited. Depending on the venue, bringing small quantities of non-alcoholic drinks in plastic bottles may be permitted.

Cannabis consumption is prohibited. Fans are not allowed to bring knives, weapons or pyrotechnics to the event. There is no room for bulky items, such as chairs or umbrellas. Bicycles and e-scooters also have no place on the fan mile.

There is an exception for flagpoles. However,

As early as March 20, 2024, the Federal Cabinet introduced a regulation on noise protection during the European Football Championship. Football fans benefit from the exceptions provided for in the temporary regulation for observing the night’s rest.

Public viewing events must generally be applied for and approved by the municipality. Since many games do not start until 9 p.m., the night-time quiet period that actually applies from 10 p.m. may not always be observed.

After 10 p.m., it can get loud during a European Championship football match. However, the municipalities have to strike a balance between the public interest in the football matches and the protection of the night’s peace and quiet.

In individual cases, this depends, for example, on the distances to the surrounding residential buildings. Cities and municipalities must also keep an eye on the scope and number of public viewing events. Regulations of this kind are not new. Similar exceptions already existed in 2006, 2008 and 2016. The current regulation applies from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
