Jan Hofer is probably known to many from the “Tagesschau” and “RTL Direkt”. Now the well-known news anchor has announced that he is also leaving the private broadcaster RTL and will be taking a new path in the future.

Hofer grew up as the eldest of four sons of a craftsman in Wesel. After graduating from high school and completing his military service, he studied business administration in Cologne. During his studies, Jan Hofer became the father of a daughter in 1971. His marriage to pop singer Anne-Karin produced two sons, born in 1984 and 1989.

The marriage ended after 15 years in 1996. From 1999 to 2014 he was in a relationship with the pop singer Conny Modauer, who later became his manager. In October 2018 he married Phong Lan Truong, a German-Vietnamese woman and his second wife. The couple have a son together, born in 2015. They initially lived in Hamburg-Lokstedt and have had residences in Berlin and Palma since 2021.

During his studies, Hofer gained his first experience in the radio editorial department of Deutsche Welle and completed an internship at various broadcasting companies in 1976. His television career began in 1982 with the regional program of Saarländischer Rundfunk before he moved to Tagesschau in 1985.

In addition to his work as a news anchor, he also hosted entertainment programs and appeared in various TV productions. Jan Hofer is also known for his participation in the RTL dance show Let’s Dance in 2021, where he reached eighth place.

Since August 2021 he has been the main presenter of the news journal “RTL Direkt”. Hofer also works as an author. In a podcast, the news anchor stated that the fee for the “Tagesschau” was 260 euros, although the amount varies depending on the program. There is no publicly known information about his assets.

In the summer he will end his contract with RTL. He explained this to RND as follows: “Now the time has come when I want to see my son grow up. He is only eight and he would really like to play football with his dad more often.”
