A failed prison break in Russia ends fatally for the hostage takers. They are said to have been suspected IS terrorists.
An attempted prison break took place last Sunday in a high-security prison in Rostov-on-Don, southern Russia. As the “Berliner Morgenpost” reports, six prisoners, who are suspected of having links to the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS), attempted to escape and took several prison guards hostage.
According to reports from “t-online”, which are based on information from the Russian prison authorities and the state news agency Tass, it is assumed that the escape attempt began in the early hours of the morning. The prisoners first destroyed the barred window of their cell block and thus found their way into the emergency rooms.
There they took several hostages, including the head of operations, according to the “Morgenpost”. They were apparently equipped with weapons such as knives and other sharpened objects. The hostage takers are said to have used the employees as leverage in order to obtain an escape vehicle and firearms.
In a video that was distributed through the media, the hostage takers described themselves as supporters of the Islamic State. In fact, they were arrested on terror charges, according to a spokesman for the security forces.
The situation finally escalated when negotiations between the authorities and the hostage takers failed. As a result, a special police unit intervened and stormed the prison wing where the attempted escape had taken place, as “t-online” reports. During the subsequent operation, all six hostage takers were killed. The prison staff who had been taken hostage were freed unharmed.
The prison grounds were cordoned off after the attempted escape. According to the “Morgenpost”, the escape took place in a limited area and surveillance in the other sectors of the prison was able to continue uninterrupted.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Germany took in hundreds of thousands of people in need of protection. However, these included men who were required to do military service – and who also received a citizen’s allowance. Some of the interior ministers of the federal states are now demanding that this must stop.
What was the slogan of the left-wing parties in the European elections? Vote for democracy, that is, for us! Show your attitude, who needs content anyway? But it is always said that the right-wing are the ones without arguments. Let’s be honest: Anyone who feels the need to make democracy an election issue is already at the end of their rope.
